Hunter’s Story: Kung Fu Perseverance for Kids
Starting the Journey Early
When Hunter was just five years old, his parents made the drive from Nebraska City to enroll him in Kung Fu classes. They wanted him to learn self-defense and the life lessons that come with martial arts training.
Overcoming the Urge to Quit
Fast forward to today: Hunter is in high school and earned his black sash three years ago. His journey wasn’t always easy. There was a time he wanted to quit. But with encouragement from his parents, he persevered and rediscovered his love for Kung Fu.
Advice for Other Students
Hunter’s advice for other kids learning perseverance is simple and powerful: “Even though you don’t want to stick with it, stick with it anyway. Keep trying no matter what, and practice at home.” It echoes one of Mr. G’s guiding principles: don’t flex your quit muscle. Building Confidence Through Kung Fu
Through Kung Fu, Hunter has built the confidence to handle bullying situations calmly, avoiding conflict before it escalates. His mom, Shana, shared how they even taped Mr. G’s saying “reset, refocus, remember” to his desk at home to help him stay focused in school.
A Village of Support
For Hunter’s family, Kung Fu has been more than martial arts. It’s been a village of support during the ups and downs of growing up.
Life Beyond the Mat
Today, when Hunter isn’t training his favorite skills like grappling or weapon forms, you’ll find him playing percussion in the band or acting in the school play.
